1)I lift up my eyes to the hills–
where does my help come from?
2)My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.–
3)He will not let your foot slip–
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4)indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5)The Lord watches over you–
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6)the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7)The Lord will keep you from all harm–
he will watch over your life;
8)the Lord will watch over your
coming and going
both now and forevermore.
This beautiful psalm is a reminder that our ultimate source of help is the Lord. One commentator noted that “lifting the eyes is a choice of one’s will”. This demands true faith in our loving heavenly father to meet our needs when there is no visible sign of intervention. It is not His will for us to be anxious about anything. Charles Spurgeon said ,”…for the very essence of anxious care is the imagining that we are wiser than God….”. To all who are struggling with problems that seem unbearable, that seem to have no answer, may you lift your eyes to the hills and find God ready and willing to meet your need!! He is a God of GREAT grace and mercy, full of compassion and love. Look up, and find Him there!
